Running is one of the most popular forms of exercise in the world. However, up to 50% of all runners may sustain an injury that will impact their training or running performance.
Often, it is the number of repetitions that is responsible for the development of an injury. Four of the most common clinical entities are anterior knee pain, iliotibial-band syndrome, lateral hip pain, Achilles tendinopathy, and plantar-fasciitis.
At Turra Physio, we are committed to providing runners with personalised care to ensure they not only recover from their injuries but also return to with a greater capacity and confidence than before. Our mission is to help athletes return to their peak condition through specialised, comprehensive Rehabilitation for various running related injuries. We provide Strength and Conditioning programs that equip runners to handle the demands that this repetitive and arduous sport requires. Our therapies will contribute to improved performance and a reduced risk of injury.
Rest is not always best
When faced with an injury, the knee-jerk reaction is often to cease all physical activity. While rest may seem like the logical solution, it may not always be the most effective one. In fact, studies have shown that a total halt in activity can lead to deconditioning of the musculoskeletal system, prolonging recovery and potentially exacerbating the issue in the long run.
Telling yourself that it’s just a niggle
We get it. You’re in the midst of training for your goal race, you need to stay on track and you don’t have time for an injury. But running through niggles session after session isn’t going to lead you to glory at the finish line.
It’s vital to know the difference between a true niggle and the beginnings of a full-blown injury.
You can have the confidence that your therapist at Turra Physio has the highest level of experience, qualifications and standards to review your problems and find solutions.
A lot of people think that you can just grab a pair of shoes and start running, which can be true. However, failure to prepare may set you up for failure.
“You don’t run to get fit, you have to be fit to run.”
Long-distance running imposes highly repetitive forces, which can be up to 8 to 10 x the bodyweight of the runner.
Without proper training, education, and an understanding of healthy running hygiene habits, issues may arise that can keep you from running.
At Turra Physio Therapy we will teach you the best individualised rehabilitation and cross-training routines and educate you to improve and maintain optimal running health.
